ShipmentVisibility

LTL tracking across every national and regional carrier

Paste a PRO number and ShipmentVisibility identifies the LTL carrier where the format allows, follows the shipment through every terminal and shows the delivery ETA. All your LTL freight sits in one list with your FTL loads, containers, air waybills and parcels, so the team stops opening a carrier site for each pallet.

LTL tracking number lookup

The PRO format is checked instantly, and live events show after you create your account.

Which LTL tracking number to use

LTL carriers track by the PRO number they assign at pickup. Most also accept the shipper's bill of lading number or a PO number as a secondary reference, but the PRO is the one that always works.

  • PRO number: assigned by the carrier, printed on a barcode label on the BOL and on each handling unit. Length and structure differ by carrier, and some include a check digit.
  • Bill of lading number: the shipper's own reference for the shipment, used for lookup when the PRO is not known yet
  • PO number and shipper reference: useful for matching, not unique across carriers

When a PRO matches one carrier's format without doubt, the carrier is detected automatically. When several carriers share a pattern, the result reads "LTL PRO, choose carrier" and you pick from the list. More on the number itself on PRO number tracking.

LTL freight tracking from pickup to POD

An LTL shipment changes hands several times. Each handoff is a place where freight can be delayed, misrouted or damaged, so each one appears on the timeline with time and terminal.

  1. Picked up at the shipper's dock and arrived at the origin terminal
  2. Departed origin terminal on linehaul, through any break bulk or relay terminal
  3. Arrived at the destination terminal
  4. Delivery appointment set, rescheduled or missed
  5. Out for delivery and delivered
  6. Proof of delivery (POD) and delivery receipt available

Exceptions that matter in LTL

The status pages of most carriers show these in small print. ShipmentVisibility puts them on top of the list with an alert.

  • Appointment required or appointment missed
  • Refused delivery, consignee closed, address correction
  • Over, short and damaged (OS&D) notations on the delivery receipt
  • Freight held at terminal, weather or equipment delays
  • Reweigh and reclass notices that change the invoice

Load tracking software for daily LTL shippers

A manufacturer shipping twenty LTL pallets a day with ODFL, Estes, Saia and XPO spends real time on four carrier sites. One list replaces that.

  • Every PRO across national and regional LTL carriers in one table, sorted by ETA or by exception
  • The same milestone names for every carrier, so a filter like "at destination terminal for more than one day" works everywhere
  • LTL next to freight tracking for FTL loads, container tracking for inbound ocean and air cargo tracking
  • CSV upload of PROs from your shipping log, CSV export for your weekly carrier review
  • Pro adds lane level on-time scorecards to compare LTL carriers on the lanes you actually ship

How LTL alerts and ETA work

LTL transit times are quoted in days, but freight can sit on a terminal floor for one more. ShipmentVisibility compares each event with the expected path and alerts you when a shipment misses its departure, dwells at a terminal or loses its delivery appointment. Alerts go by email on every plan, and Growth adds Slack and webhook alerts. The predicted ETA shows a confidence range, so customer service gives a date it can stand behind. Which plan fits your LTL volume

LTL shipments count toward the monthly limit for parcel, LTL, FTL and air. Limits count shipments added in the billing period, and deleting one never returns quota. Yearly billing saves 50 percent.

LTL tracking questions

What is an LTL tracking number?

In most cases it is the PRO number the carrier assigns at pickup. Many carriers also let you look up a shipment by the bill of lading or PO number.

Can I track LTL freight without the PRO number?

Yes, if the carrier supports lookup by bill of lading or PO number. Add the BOL number with the carrier and the PRO is attached once the carrier assigns it.

Why do I have to choose the carrier?

Several LTL carriers use PRO numbers of the same length and pattern. When the format does not point to one carrier, choosing it once keeps the tracking exact.

What does OS&D mean?

Over, short and damaged. It is a notation on the delivery receipt for freight that arrived in excess, missing or damaged, and it is the start of any freight claim.

When does the POD become available?

After delivery, once the carrier scans or uploads the signed delivery receipt. The shipment shows when the POD is ready.

Can I compare LTL carriers?

Pro includes on-time scorecards by carrier and lane, built from the shipments you track.
