ShipmentVisibility

Freight tracking for FTL loads and LTL shipments

ShipmentVisibility tracks every truck shipment you send or receive, full truckload and less than truckload, by PRO number, load number or shipper reference. Each load gets a timeline, a map position, a predicted ETA and alerts, in the same list as your containers, air waybills and parcels.

Track freight by number

The number format is checked instantly, and live events show after you create your account.

FTL and LTL are tracked differently

Full truckload (FTL) means one shipper's freight fills or reserves a trailer that goes from pickup straight to delivery, with the same driver or team. Less than truckload (LTL) means your pallets share a trailer with other shippers and move through a network of terminals. That difference decides what you can see.

Load numbers and references

A truckload move collects several numbers, and different people use different ones. ShipmentVisibility keeps all of them on the shipment, so anyone finds the load by the number they have.

  • Load number or load ID: the shipper's or the broker's identifier for the move
  • Carrier trip or PRO number: the carrier's own reference, used when you call dispatch
  • Bill of lading number: the shipper's document number for the freight, see bill of lading tracking
  • PO and order numbers: what your customer asks about
  • Trailer and seal numbers: what the receiving dock checks at arrival
  • Pickup and delivery appointment numbers: what the warehouse schedules against

Freight milestones you see

  1. Tendered, accepted and dispatched to pickup
  2. Arrived at pickup, loaded, departed, with dock time recorded
  3. In transit with the latest reported location
  4. Arrived at delivery, unloaded, departed, with dock time recorded
  5. Delivered with POD available
  6. For LTL, every terminal arrival and departure in between

Dock time matters because truckload carriers bill driver detention when loading or unloading runs past the free time, often two hours. Seeing arrival and departure times on each stop makes those charges easy to verify.

Freight tracking software instead of check calls

Without one system, truck visibility runs on check calls, emails to dispatch and carrier portals that each need a login. A single list replaces that routine.

  • FTL loads and LTL shipments together, sorted by predicted delivery or by exception
  • The same milestone names for every carrier, so filters and reports work across your carrier base
  • Inbound freight next to outbound, so receiving plans dock doors from the same view
  • Ocean and air legs in the same list with container tracking and air cargo tracking
  • CSV upload on every plan, ERP and TMS integrations (NetSuite, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics, generic CSV and SFTP feeds) on Pro

Cargo tracking software for every mode

Freight rarely stays on one mode. A container is drayed to a cross dock, broken down and sent onward as LTL, and the urgent part flies. ShipmentVisibility keeps those legs in one list under shared references such as the PO or BOL number, so the whole move is easy to follow.

A freight tracking system your customers can see

From Growth, each shipment has a branded tracking page with your logo and colors and a link you can share, plus customer emails when freight ships, slips, goes out for delivery and arrives.

How freight alerts and ETA work

Each event is compared with the planned schedule and the appointment times. When a truck is late to pickup, a load sits without movement, an LTL shipment dwells at a terminal or the predicted arrival moves past the delivery appointment, an alert goes out. Email alerts are on every plan, Slack and webhook alerts from Growth. The predicted ETA comes with a confidence range, so customer service can commit to a window. Which plan fits your freight

FTL and LTL shipments count toward the monthly limit for parcel, LTL, FTL and air. Limits count shipments added in the billing period, and deleting one never returns quota. Yearly billing saves 50 percent.

Freight tracking questions

Can I track a truckload by load number?

Yes, when the carrier publishes tracking for that reference. Add the load with the carrier, and keep the BOL, PO and trailer numbers on it so anyone can find it.

What is the difference between FTL and LTL tracking?

An FTL load stays on one truck, so tracking follows that truck's location. An LTL shipment moves through terminals, so tracking follows terminal scans by PRO number.

Do you track freight booked through a broker?

Yes. Add the carrier's PRO or the load reference, and keep the broker's load number as a reference on the shipment.

Can I see dock time at pickup and delivery?

When the carrier reports arrival and departure at each stop, both times appear on the timeline, which helps you check detention charges.

Can I track inbound freight from my suppliers?

Yes. Inbound and outbound shipments sit in the same list, so receiving sees what arrives next to what ships.

Do I need to connect a TMS?

No. Paste numbers or upload a CSV on any plan. ERP and TMS integrations are on Pro for teams that want shipments added automatically.
